Background

Tatiana and Farkhad met in 1989 when she studying in Moscow. Farkhad had been married before. Farkhad and Tatiana married in July 1993 in Moscow when Tatiana was pregnant with their elder son.

In 1993, Tatiana and Farkhad moved to London. They lived in London in a property which Farkhad had purchased. Their elder son was born in London in 1993 … In June 1996, their younger child was born in Monaco. In 1996, Farkhad purchased a property in Surrey, England (“the English property“) and the family moved there.

Farkhad worked in London as an oil and gas trader and began to travel a great deal. H became very successful in pursuing business interests in the energy sector in Russia through his Russian company. In November 2012, Farkhad sold his shares in the Russian company for US$1.375 billion.

Tatiana has been a housewife and mother throughout the marriage. Tatiana was a ‘hands-on’ mother who cared for and brought up the boys herself in Surrey, without the assistance of a nanny. Tatiana also helped to care for Farkhad’s child from his first marriage, who came over to live and go to school in England. The boys were educated in various private day schools in Surrey. They went to university in England. Both children are British citizens. The children have visited Russia but have never lived there. In 2013, Farkhad bought each of the boys flats in London at a luxury development costing £29 million and £7.2 million respectively.

Tatiana still lives in the former matrimonial home in Surrey, the English property. It was transferred by Farkhad into her sole name in 2013.   She was granted Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK in 1994 and became a British citizen in October 2000. Farkhad also has Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK.

The marriage lasted over 20 years from 1993 to October 2013, when Tatiana issued her petition; and the marriage only finally came to an end, after a failed attempt at reconciliation, in late 2014.1
